FAQ 4: Filters
How long will a filter last?
A1:
A normal time frame is 9 months to a year but this depends on how much water you use and the quality of your
water.
How many gallons are used per filter life?
A2: The digital filter indicator is controlled by a
circuit board timer. The total accumulation of ON time is 20 hours so the actual volume of water depends on the
flow rate. That could vary from 800 gals to 1000 gallons.
Does it use up the filter faster if you use power level 5 all the time?
A3: No, the filter indicator is a timer device
only, not based on flow rate or power setting.
My unit has a digital filter indicator. How high will the numbers go?
A4: On the Regency Elite unit
the numbers will accumulate up to 999. On the Regency X unit the numbers will accumulate up to 9999, so they appear to move
faster but the total time is the same.
Are there different types of filters for the Regency Elite unit? It seems
like I read an article that talked about a filter media that helps promote the ionization process.
A5: We have two filters available for the Regency Elite
as per the specification page. There are Tourmaline beads included in the filters. All the replacement filters
that we have sold over the last several years have had the Tourmaline beads included. A recent change is that the beads are
now in a separate layer instead of being mixed in with the charcoal.
Please refer to our article on Tourmaline in the
Educational section.
In addition to this there is also a separate layer of Calcium beads in the centre area of the filter.
Again, these have always been in the filter but were previously mixed with the charcoal.
Thirdly, the filter has now been
reclassified as a 0.1 Micron size instead of the previous 1.0 micron.
Do you see a benefit in the layers of the media?
A6: The North American wholesaler for these units have
cut apart several filters to inspect what the inside is really like and the first layer is the Tourmaline beads. The benefit
of doing it in a layer is that all the water now makes contact with the beads whereas if it is scattered among the charcoal,
only a portion of the water molecules actually make contact the beads.
The same principle applies to the Calcium which
is layered in the centre of the filter.
